Knowing how to start one of these posts is definitely something that doesn’t get any easier with time or practice! It’s something I look forward to at the end of every season though. There’s something incredibly satisfying about looking back on a whole year’s worth of hard work. Knowing that in some small way, you’ve brought a little more joy and happiness into the lives of so many families.
As cliché as it is to say, this year does seem to have come and (almost) gone incredibly quickly, but in retrospect, I suppose every year does. As 2017 approaches we’re going to be entering our 6th year of business. Sixth!
This year was a huge one for us- moreso personally than professionally. Not only has it been our first year of marriage, but it’s also been the year we’ve realised that having a healthy work/life balance is key. We realised that loving what we do doesn’t mean it has to be all that we do- a concept we’ve struggled with since….well, forever.
So we made 2016 the year that we focused on doing more of what makes us happy. For a start we finally followed our dream of moving to the countryside, We’ve dedicated more time to keeping fit (5 stone down between us, since September 2016 woo!) and made a point of catching up with family/friends whenever we can. It’s felt like 2016 has been the year that life has started to fall into place and as a result we’re more eager and excited about our business than ever.
Applying the same approach to our work has meant that it’s really been a year of growth and development for us. We’ve used every experience shooting as an opportunity to learn something. This has really helped us to identify what we love to shoot, who we love to work with, the types of places we like to work. It’s helped us to identify our goals and re-evaluate what’s important to us. There are lots of exciting things to come as 2017 begins and we can’t wait to share them with you!
For the time being though, back to 2016. And what a year! I couldn’t do it justice with words alone so to briefly summarise before letting you get to the good stuff, 2016 in weddings went something like this:
Epic cakes, Ed Sheeran! Vodka Luge, Dogs! So many dogs! Space Hoppers, Confetti cannons, swishy dresses, Rock N Roll Bride magazine! Very teary grooms, tipis, brides literally being thrown in the air! 16.5k likes on instagram, Italian dancing, donkeys! Tractors, pigs and even a parrot! Charity campaigns, more magazine features, more awards and more first looks than ever! New venues, old venues and favourite venues. Same sex weddings, weddings with actual boats and weddings with underwater themes. Sweary Testimonials!
We’d love to know what you think of our end of year summary when you make it to the end, so feel free to leave a comment or tag your friends/family if you spot them too.
Thank you to all the superstar couples who allowed up to be a part of their happy ever after this year. We had such a blast working with you all.
